Newberry Lumber Company was established in 2003 as the 8th lumber mill to join Besse’s hardwood lumber operation since the company’s inception in 1966. Located in the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan, an area rich in logging and lumbering tradition, Newberry Lumber Company is ideally placed along primary rail transportation routes for hardwood logs from Northern Ontario and the Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.

The mill underwent extensive renovation with the addition of twin double cutting head saws as well as the modernization and streamlining of its material handling lines. With the addition of Newberry Lumber Company’s 22,000 board feet per day capacity, Besse hardwood lumber production surpasses 40 million board feet of green and kiln dried lumber each year.
