Birds Eye Veneer Company, located in Butternut, Wisconsin, has been in the hardwood veneer business since 1912. At one point in its history the company produced 75% of the birds eye maple veneer in the world. The company was acquired by the Besse family in 1990 and is the fifth company in the Besse Forest Products Group.
The Birds Eye Veneer Company has 90,000 square feet of manufacturing space. The company recently upgraded its lathe lines adding a new 78" Forest Products Technology Lathe and Charger to its existing 130" Capital rotary lathe and 11' slicer. Feeding the lathe lines is a redesigned and upgraded green end which features a new Nicholson Debarker. The renovation also included a new Babcock Press Dryer and Hurst Steam Boiler System.
The company now has the capacity to manufacture over 100,000,000 square feet (9,290,304 square meters) of hardwood and softwood veneer to customer's specifications for the domestic and export market in most lengths, widths, and thicknesses. Birds Eye Veneer Company also continues to specialize in high quality birds eye and curly hard maple veneers.
