Besse Forest Products Group is seeking an Executive Assistant and LIMS Data Clerk to join the Besse Team at the Corporate Office, located in Gladstone, MI.

Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook is essential.  Must be professional and uphold confidentiality with sensitive information. Ideal candidates will be highly organized and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.  They must be detail oriented and have the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Executive Assistant to the President/CEO
  • Manage LIMS (3Log – Log Inventory Management System) database to increase use and integration across the Company
  • LIMS (3Log) is a company specific program used to track log inventory and timber sales at all mill locations
  • Match invoices with appropriate documentation for approval prior to payment
  • Maintain vendor contracts and rate tables within LIMS (3Log) database
  • Communicate with staff in the field to process loads and other payments in a timely fashion
  • Work with a team to improve workflows across the Company
  • Ensure accurate data entry and meticulous reporting
  • Complete various Corporate reports and graphs; weekly and monthly

  • Basic understanding of databases a plus
  • Previous experience using LIMS (3Log) a plus

PLANT MANAGER

Besse Forest Products Group, headquartered in Gladstone, MI, is one of the leading producers of hardwood lumber, veneer, and plywood in North America operating four sawmills, one lumber concentration yard, three veneer mills, one plywood plant, and employs over 350 people.

We are currently seeking a Plant Manager for Birchwood Manufacturing in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

 

SUMMARY

 

This position will be responsible for achieving company business objectives for the veneer plant to include year-over-year improvements in production, quality, and costs through efficient manufacturing methods which enable customer orders to be processed, manufactured, and shipped complete on time with the highest quality in a cost effective and safe manner.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the overall production, quality, cost, and safety objectives for the veneer plant. Develop and implement key performance indicators to achieve these performance objectives.
  • Develop and implement long range and short-term objectives, plans and programs for the veneer plant, which align with overall business objectives.
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of business acumen to understand how veneer manufacturing operations and sales impact overall company success.
  • Develop and manage plant operational budget to include both capital and expense items.
  • Lead a culture of continuous improvement and be a champion of activities, programs, and events to drive continuous improvement efforts throughout the plant.
  • Own the communication process to ensure plant personnel & company senior management are kept informed of conditions, trends, and important activities affecting the wood business as well as daily results, quality issues, and other business needs.
  • Partner with organizational leaders and outside partners to develop optimum capacity, efficiency, and profitability of the plant.
  • Plan daily and weekly production targets and delegate resources to ensure productivity and customer orders meet quantity/quality specifications, are ready for delivery, and are delivered on schedule.
  • Actively ensure training and development of assigned personnel to maximize safety, quality, and productivity across the production departments.
  • Perform performance reviews, employee relations activities, and corrective action in a timely and effective manner.
  • Support awareness of environmental and safety concerns in a proactive manner to ensure a safe environment for our associates and community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will manage 3-5 direct reports and 50-75 indirect reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

The BESSE FOREST PRODUCTS GROUP is seeking a Log Yard Supervisor at Besse Lumber Company, located in Ladysmith, WI.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervises, trains and coordinates activities of workers within the log yard
  • Oversees scaling and grading activities
  • Coordinates selection and movement of logs
  • Maintains a safe and efficient working environment
  • Manages log yard inventory
  • Optimizes overall log yard layout to achieve maximum utilization and volume efficiency to minimize log yard costs
  • Ensures log yard operations comply with all federal, state and local environmental rules and regulations

Requirements include:

  • Knowledge and experience in log scaling
  • Forklift and log yard equipment operation is a plus
  • Familiar with rolling stock
  • Interest in working outdoors in the fresh air
  • Managerial or supervisory experience is preferred
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Besse Forest Products Group, a leading manufacturer of quality Northern hardwood veneer, lumber, and specialty plywood, is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a Log Buyer position.  This position will procure saw logs & veneer logs in the Goodman, Wisconsin areas.

Responsibilities

  • Purchasing saw logs & veneer logs using Besse buying processes and log grades
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers
  • Utilize handheld data recorder and tagging system for inventory control purposes
  • Have a working understanding of the forestry market and trends
  • The ability to work in a fast paced environment while focusing on quality

 

Job Qualification and Requirements

  • Forestry Degree is required; however, significant experience and training in the forestry industry may also be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of saw log & veneer log buying experience
  • Capable of working independently and being a self-starter with a proven record of setting and achieving goals
  • Ability to work outdoors, year-round and in all elements
  • Proficient with computers (email, excel, word, log scaling programs)
  • Must reside within a 45 minute drive of Goodman, WI

PLANT MANAGER
